Partying on the Las Vegas Strip on New Years Eve is like being in one giant club. It's crowded, it's loud, there is drinking, dancing, food, and music. No cover charge, no tickets needed, just a few dollars and a little patience is all it takes to make this one unforgettable Vegas New Years Eve.
Parking and getting down to the Strip takes a little planning. If you have a room on the Strip, this will not be an issue, just keep your car parked. However, if you are going to be driving in, it’s best to get there early. The Strip starts closing down in the center around 6pm, and by 8pm all 4 miles are shut down to outside traffic. The Las Vegas Monorail will be open until 3am and is going to be the only transportation operating on the strip. Across from Mandalay Bay are a number of small side streets with public parking and easy access off the Strip. When you lock up your car, take a jacket cause it will get cold.
Once you get on the Strip you can either be in the middle of a massive crowd or have plenty of elbow room, it’s up to you. Generally the most crowded area is in front of The Mirage and Harrah's, where it’s packed and you can barely move. Keep in mind that the at some point during the evening most casinos close their doors (and their restrooms) to all but guests. So for a couple of hours before midnight, once you are out on the Strip, that’s where you'll be.
When drinking on the Strip there is just one rule: plastic only. There are lots of beer vendors selling cold beer along the Strip. There are also plenty of liquor, convenience, and souvenir stores that sell alcohol and mixers. The bars in the casinos will pour you drinks to go, but be prepared for long lines.
The midnight rooftop fireworks show is back on this year. As midnight approaches, you want to find your perfect spot to countdown and watch the show. The fireworks show is synchronized to make its way up the Strip from these hotels: MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Aria, Caesers Palace, Treasure Island, the Venetian and the Stratosphere. Expect screaming, kissing, flashing and other debauchery at midnight.
GetWize: “America's Party: Las Vegas New Year 2010” is going to be one unforgettable night. Remember, park early, plastic only, be patient and party hard!!
