Coachella wasn't the only place to be seen in the desert last weekend. The Ace Hotel & Swim Club celebrated its arrival in Palm Springs with Desert Gold, a music event that took place April 17th-19th. An eclectic group of musicians, local desert folk, and hotel guests came together for afternoon poolside shows and late night DJ dance parties.

Ace and Levi's collaborated for the event which featured a gifting suite complete with shwag and celebrity appearances to boot. The Kills, Alexander Skarsgaard, Ariel Pink, members of Beirut, Peaches Geldof, and many more celebs stopped by to cop a pair of the classic 501 or the super skinny 510. POM Wonderful and Coor’s provided the refreshments while Ray-Ban supplied sunglasses to shield the blaze of the desert sun. Talk about the hipster hook-up.

The event featured performances by Northwest artists like The Cave Singers, Justin Power, and Y La Bamba, joined by The Thriftstore Allstars, Gram Rabbit, and Electric Western, a local band from Joshua Tree. At night, the We Make it Good Crew, consisting of Jason Bentley (KCRW), Royal Rumble (No Culture), Aaron Castle (A Club Called Rhonda/PDA), and Victor Rodriguez (Shits and Giggles/PDA) provided the beat to a poolside crowd. Matador Records also sponsored a listening party for the new Sonic Youth album, The Eternal.

A last-minute surprise appearance by Holly Miranda late Friday night was, without a doubt, the highlight of the weekend. Miranda, the up-and-coming singer songwriter, gave an impromptu acoustic performance outside her room at 3 a.m. for the night-owl partiers. With the arrival of the Ace, Palm Springs doesn't seem like old-town USA anymore, now does it?
