It was a typically drizzly Thursday night in the city, but the legendary UK hard house DJ, Carl Cox, had aligned with the stars to play out an amazing set at Mighty! It was the perfect night for an incredible techno fused party presented by Spundae and Blasthaus bringing to you Mr. DJ extraordinaire “Carl Cox” to perform his wizard like sorcery behind the decks.

I arrived at the club around 11:15, it was comfortably full; people were still flowing in through the doors. Alain Octavo (Spundae) was on the decks, laying down some nice techno then 30 minutes later Nikola (blasthaus, Kontrol) goes on and plays some beautiful minimal techno, nicely warming up for the man of the evening, by the time Nikola was well into his set the club was well packed. Carl Cox takes the stage a little after midnight and the sound is unmistakable, the crowd is roaring and cheering as he gracefully stands behind the controls in the booth. You could just tell that this was going to be a top notch musical experience! This talented DJ has been around for a 20+ years and it shows in his playing and his professionalism. He certainly knows how to work a crowd and is known for his amazing pumping beat (and pumping fists), often involving three mixing sources at once.

Carl gets a major thumbs up for the fact that he hung around as Alain and Nikola were playing, totally head bopping away. Most Dj's of his caliber usually walk in right on their set time, it was nice to see that he was not making a ‘grand appearance’ and totally respecting the other local talents, he’s part of the party from start to end, rare to see these days. His set was immaculate, often involving three or more mixing sources. Cox played tribal, house, acid house, techno and everything in between, his ups and downs where perfectly aligned and the crowd was reacting with cheers, hands in the air and just amazing unstoppable dancing moves.

Carl seemed to be in really good spirits which helped fuel the crowd into an uncontrollable dancing frenzy, good vibes where in the air. The visuals where on nice big flat screens and the sound that night was a tight and well calibrated at Mighty, seemed like someone had re-adjusted it for this show - great treat for the partiers and DJs alike!

This guy is really an incredible DJ! If you ever get a chance to see him, imagine watching Hendrix or Clapton, and as your DJ equivalent - Carl Cox live! It felt like history was taking place last night and since this DJ has so much incredible history in the Dance scene it was an honor to experience it with him.
