This last weekend French house duo, Daft Punk,c If the Greek Theater had a roof, Daft Punk would have levitated it. The warm summer night concert set in the Berkeley hills made for a most memorable night to take in a show and let me tell you, the Greek has never felt bass like this before!
Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo, Daft Punk's flight captains and masterminds, boarded their spaceship with helmets firmly attached and took the crowd on a ride though electronic/dance hits like 'Technologic', 'Human Afterall', 'Around the World' and 'One More Time' - their most commercial anthem to cross over into big radio.
'One More Time', the 2007 answer to Kool and the Gang's 'Celebrate'
(some would call it cheesy), was thrown into the mix no less than three times in the performance including the finale. Sadly, the guys performed just one encore after rocking it for a little more than an hour. Most might agree that the crowd was left wanting more.
Overall, these Daft Punks were never stale, always bouncing and nob-twidling through their French disco-funk-house palette of sounds.
The crowd responded accordingly, pulsing and dancing under the stars.
The peak moment in the night was when Daft Punk lit up the L-Wire in their space suits and performed a tripped-out, funkier update on 'Da Funk'. The lite-brite crew of concert-goers in the middle of the dance pit tossed their silver '69' shaped balloons into the air towards the stage...joining the hands and screams of the thousands of fans caught in the moment.
