Get Freaky meets Bohemian Carnival

Last Friday night at 1015 Folsom was yet another rockin ‘Get Freaky’ throw down. This time, Get Freaky played host to the Bohemian Carnival cirque troup and featured musical headliners such as the Gooferman, Glitch Mob featuring Edit and Boreta and from the UK, Aquasky. This was a night that will not soon be forgotten. It was like a Get Freaky party on visual steroids with an excellent entertainment lineup of incredible artists and much more than mere music to tickle your creative senses. Oh, did I forget to mention the chocolate wrestling?

Recap:
I Arrived at the 1015 Folsom to find a healthy line of people at the door. The club was full of dressed up, Circus style, partiers in every room. In fact this party was so well balanced that the front, bottom and upstairs room where all packed equally and the music was equally superb in every room. Unlike every other event where the main room is the attraction of the night, all rooms had attracted dancers and were pumping out amazing music. The club had a great vibe and I quickly forgot where I was. It was a night Circus for sure. The main room was turned into the master Circus ring of the “Bohemian Carnival”, with contortionists, acrobats, clowns, dancers and circus acts. There were visuals on the screens as always but also live performances on the stage.

Aquasky and many more played awesome beats to amazing artists and performers exhibiting incredible talent, precision and strength on the stage. There has been a lot of talk recently on what can be done at clubs to take parties to higher, more intense levels. This evening was an example of what can happen when you meld great music with innovative performance art and it served as a glimpse into what could be the future of clubbing.

The VIP section upstairs was transformed into a theater style changing room, and the artists and performers kept flowing out of that room with great costumes geared up for performances throughout the entire night. I had the pleasure of catching up with Maya Culbertson-Lane (Artistic Director of ‘Fou Fou Ha’) who preformed that night as well. She mentioned that they will be performing their intricate dance choreography, drag queens, slapstick dancing girl band of mayhem-makers at the Garage @ 975 Howard St. for two nights with German electro pop talent Torsten Kretchmar (love child of Kraftwerk and Sprockets). This takes place on Nov. 16th and 17th with a dance party to follow. Not only have I been blessed with a great night out, but next weekend seems to have been just set! The Bohemnian Carnival is packed with full on talented supercharged artists and performers alike. Bringing a wonderful, participating group of partiers together to let loose and have fun in the raunchy Circus like spirit. This is highly recommended event. If you get a chance to see them, guaranteed they will not disappoint you! Two thumbs up!
