Green is the word this weekend at the San Francisco Green Festival! The huge, three-day "party with a purpose" takes place at the Concourse Exhibition Center from Friday through Sunday. In store are hundreds of exhibits by green businesses, special speakers, how-to workshops, performances from local musicians, and tasty organic foods and beverages.
The Green Festivals – a joint project of Global Exchange and Co-op America – celebrate and promote strong, sustainable, and socially just economies. They attract hordes of socially-conscious community members (last year 35,000 attended in San Francisco) so plan on plenty of green-minded company.
Scores of green businesses and community, environmental, and social justice organizations will exhibit on topics as varied as electric cars, organic tea, bamboo bed linens, and socially responsible investing. Also on the festival's menu are documentary films, special speakers like Deepak Chopra, and plenty of live music and organic food.
You can nab discounted tickets by cycling to the festival, or by bringing along three or more books to donate (the books will be sold on BetterWorld.com and proceeds will help fund girls' scholarships in developing countries through Room to Read. So clear off a bookshelf, hop on a bike, and roll on over for some good green times.
