With Halloween being on a school night this year, many San Francisco promoters decided to bring Halloween to the clubs and music venues early and make this last weekend Halloween Weekend. Every venue, nightclub and underground was packed full with costumed party people having a great time all weekend. On Saturday night, Ofer R. headed out to catch 2 of the many big shows going on. From Opel's Night of the Living Bass event at Mighty to UNKLE @ Mezzanine and then back again, check out the fun.
"I Began the night @ Mighty for Opel's Night of the living BASS and arrived to find Metrowize’s very own Erik Rumors rocking the outside terrace of the club with his progressive breaks infused set. The outside was already rockin' and the club was getting filled with partiers in creative, gorgeous costumes. This was a party that was about to go off the hook and you could feel it. It was getting late and I Really wanted to catch UNKLE @ Mezzanine so I headed out but I was going to be back later!
I got to Mezzanine at about midnight for UNKLE and they were already on stage. The club was full with a ‘healthy’ line outside. People dressed up with wild costumes, UNKLE was up on stage with full band and a tour bus outside. The venue was full and the music was un-resistible. Having previously feared the consequence of an UNKLE live show, that fear was diminished when I heard the music and saw them on stage. UNKLE, a top notch band, proceeded to jam while playing out their songs over the fully amped Mezzanine sound system – executed flawlessly. This show was simply brilliant, great original visuals blasting on to a big screen behind them. The crowd was under the UNKLE spell and mesmerized by the power, timing, sweat and heart that went into every song. This was all sequenced and very well put together for a continuous flowing musical performance. They played songs from ‘War Stories’ and older material rejuvenated with a live experience. True pioneers and musical masters, UNKLE, have now recently became great rock stars! They played a club like venue and came out on top of the world. Who says that a rock band can’t rock a club to shreds? When they had completed their encore, a DJ started off with an 80’s infused set – the party was on but I had to return to Mighty were another Fiesta was in full swing!
I showed up back at Mighty for the continuation of the “Night of the Living Bass” where I happily discovered Dylan Rhymes rocking the main room with his unmistakable sound - Tweaked out Acid breaks played of the incredible sound system. Wow what a party! The house was packed! People in great costumes everywhere you looked adding to the incredible visuals shown on the Mighty screens. Ended up dancing the night away next to a big dressed up Penguin – what a ride. Just when you thought it could not possibly get any better, Shack entered the room, how can you possibly ask for more!? As usual, Elite Force played his set flawlessly with tracks by (Justice, Digitalism and many more…). These Opel Halloween parties have become a solid staple in SF nightlife scene, with great lineups, beautiful décor and amazing people! The vibe was full of great and talented individuals having fun!
The local DJ’s Syd Gris, Melyss, ICON, Spesh, Fred Funk, Alain Octavo, Scottino, Dirtyhertz, Tamo, DJ Hill, Vinkalmann. MACE, HOJ and Erik Rumors were amazing playing the back room, main room, terrace and bus. Great lineup at any point of the party in any of the three music locations, you could hear excellent music and dance with groovy dressed up people. Solid Halloween weekend indeed."
