Harlot SF- The velvet rope comes to SOMA
By: Liz Tarney 12/04/07You won't find many L.A. type clubs in San Francisco, (and that's generally a good thing), but Harlot does a good job with the "velvet rope" concept in the SOMA part of town. House music, bottle service, and enough cleavage to give a guy a sore neck make this place unique in its SF surroundings.
Relatively speaking, Harlot is a new San Francisco club, but it's more like a sleek bar with turntables. It's a small club with a main floor and a balcony, bottle service and a nice sound system. The idea behind the club, a creation of SF nightlife icons Martel and Nabiel, was to create a plush lounge environment, and they pull it off quiet well.
This club has a slightly older, more sophisticated type crowd with money and good looks. On the weekends, like any other hot spot, covers and a bouncer with an attitude might hinder your enjoyment of the space. To alleviate this problem, stop by on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening and enjoy some elbow room and a more relaxed environment.
Check out the website for weekly events. Many launch parties and sponsored events go on at Harlot, so you might find yourself at a BPM party or a Fashion Week event and those nights are always epic.
Finally, if you're visiting and staying downtown, you'll like this place because of it's proximity. It's down a quiet alley near 2nd Street on Minna.
