Sure, everyone has a vintage poster print or two, but this weekend you have a chance to nab rare originals. From Friday through Sunday at Fort Mason, art dealers from around the world are gathering to display and sell over 10,000 original vintage posters at the 14th annual International Vintage Poster Fair. It's the absolute ideal spot to find authentic old-style pizazz to brighten up those boring white walls.
The International Vintage Poster Fair offers a comprehensive collection of original vintage posters from an international group of dealers. The rich selection spans major historical, cultural and artistic movements of the late-19th and 20th centuries, including Art Nouveau and Belle Epoque designs, Art Deco, Plakat Objet, Propaganda, Futurist and Atomic Age Design. Also in store is wide array of consumer products posters.
One highlight is the special traveling theme, “Around the World in Three Days—Great Cities of the World”, which shines a spotlight on vivid, emblematic images of diverse cities around the globe. Also, on Sunday morning, internationally renowned poster dealer Mireille Romand will offer a Poster Walk to offer insights on poster history and individual dealers.
The posters are all for sale, with most priced at $500-$2,000, though especially rare pieces will cost a very pretty penny. Still, the festival doesn't simply cater to serious, established collectors – anyone with an admiring eye is happily welcome. In any case, whether or not you break your piggy bank, the fair is sure to be a smashing success for anyone with a passion for posters.
