Your better judgement passed out an hour before and your consciousness took the last BART back to the east bay. Its time to collect yourself and rally. After years of intense and focused research these are the top ten hands down best foods to eat when your drunk. They might not straighten you up but they'll definitely kick start the journey.
10. Nutella, strawberries and turkey might not sound good when your sober, but you're reading this list for the times you're not. There's a great crepe stand adjacent to Butter (354 11th) that always has a line around the corner. Location wise your in the heart of SOMA which means even after 2 am there will still be people mingling around the street. The beauty of the crepe is that it packs all the important food groups needed for late night drunken snacking - you've got your slim pancake for absorption purposes, nutella for its restorative properties and strawberries for sugar to help keep you alert. Also its an easy place to get that oh so important cab, natch.
9. When has a hot dog wrapped in bacon and cooked on tin foil not sounded so great? Actually they always sound great. When you're drunk, doubly so. The trick is that these "death dogs" and their dealers are like a real life game of where's Waldo being held every weekend in the mission. You should be able to find them somewhere on mission between 16th and 18th surrounded by hungry and stumbling on lookers. Its grilled meat and bread for cheap, what more can be added?
8. Orphan Andy's ( 3991 17th St) in the 'stro is for when you had one blue cosmo too many. Push past the salads and low carb alternatives and dive straight into the burger and extra crispy fires, order a side of brown gravy and treat yourself to a little bite of heaven. It's open 24hours and serves a plethora of diner style items. If the burger that's not enough to get your feet firmly planted on the ground then order a bowl of chili and beat that booze with a hit.
7. Cable Car Pizza ( 464 Broadway) is open really late. Countless number of bridge and tunnelers stumble in and walk out half hour later in surprisingly good shape. Usually there's a line but a slice of the pesto pizza will set you straight. Its just greasy enough to curb your edge but not bad enough to make you feel super guilty the next day. The only problem is that its too well lit, darker light means prettier people to share that pie with.
6. Yuet Lee ( 1300 Stockton St) serves frog legs and duck feet soup till three. This is where you want to be if North Beach is on overload and you just want to get away from it all. Go with your Chinese friends and order off the menu. When your wasted it all seems tasty, stomach, brains, eyeballs - warts and all.
