Mighty SF

Name: Mighty
Address: 119 Utah St.
If one club represents the underground club culture of San Francisco, it’s Mighty. No fancy pants or halter tops necessary, no velvet ropes for a half filled club, no outrageous drink prices or VIP booths. What you do get is some of the best, most up-front DJs in the country with a cool crowd to boot. It’s no wonder that promoters love this late night venue in Potrero.
Mighty is a destination venue--there isn’t much foot traffic in this former dot-com office hub/design district. Minus the local bar Il Parata up the street (a decent place to grab a pre-party drink if you show early), there’s not much else around.
The space is designed sparsely, with concrete walls and graffiti-style murals. There's a screen for visuals draped across the bare walls, and it serves as a good way to break from watching the DJ (or your date).
On busy nights, the venue spills outside to the sidewalk where smokers can listen to downtempo DJ’s. Inside, a much smaller, second room opens up near the back for more variety. Still, ninety percent of this venue is one room that makes full use of the 16 foot high towers of speakers (there are four of them). They look like the old speakers from the 151 Townsend days of 6 years ago. Still, they sound great and they had just the right grittiness for this venue that seems to love Breaks. Best of all, drinks are reasonable and the vibe is cool. On a good night the crowd keeps the venue open till 5AM, making it a great place to check out after last call.
