New Year's Eve in SF is undoubtedly one of the biggest party nights of the year. When else can you choose from literally hundreds of events with all varieties of music and entertainment? This year for New Years, Mezzanine has put together what just might be the sleeper event of it all. New Years Disco 2008 will feature headliners Blaqk Audio and Kate Perry who is making her first ever SF appearance. MetroWize has the low down on why you need to seriously consider this event when making your NYE plans.

Blaqk Audio is the electronic side endeavor of punk rockers Jade Puget and Davey Havok, who play in the band AFI. Their first CD, entitled “CexCells,” is heavily influenced by groups like Depeche Mode and Duran Duran, and at times it’s hard to tell whether you’re listening to Depeche or Puget and Havok. Havok, who spearheaded this project, has been immersing himself in the “futurepop” genre since the early ‘00s, and he combines dark dance-y electronica with melodic vocals frequently in his tracks.

Katy Perry, meanwhile, sprung onto the airwaves of LA’s KROQ after her witty single “UR So Gay” hit the radio playlists. She has been deemed the next big thing by bloggers and fans alike, and her music has been featured on several network shows including MTV’s The Hills. Even though she has only released an EP, this pop/rock artist has been signed to a major record deal with her first CD coming out in the spring.

Mezzanine will be hosting Blaqk Audio and Katy Perry as well as LA group Moving Units at their New Year’s Disco, which will undoubtedly be an electric night full of both throwback and contemporary dance and electronic music with a touch of rock.
