Located in the outskirts of the bustling financial district on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, Ozumo is a go-to-spot in this area for Japanese cuisine and cool atmosphere. With ubiquitous contemporary/modern design, great service, and pretty good food, this restaurant brings together a unique fusion of east meets west.
Ozumo is generally permeated with business-types, partly due to its location, but also brings in a substantial amount of young and hip clientele that work downtown. Be ready to pay the damage for this somewhat pricey food, a good spot for a business meeting or lunch with co-workers, unless you’re left without an expense account and left flipping the bill. The décor is probably the most appealing aspect of this restaurant with great aesthetic detail down to the private rooms all the way to the restrooms.
Ozumo houses a great bar that many seem to like more than the very food itself. The bar offers a wide variety of sake with some great nigori and a good selection of premium sakes that should satisfy the toughest critic. They also have great cocktails and offer a tasty selection of very creative specialty drinks like the “Giddy Geisha martini” and the “Ajisai”. The DJ adds a nice touch to the atmosphere and the good appetizers make this a nice spot to enjoy a drink. While the price of sushi is steep, especially for the dinner menu, the restaurant puts an emphasis on the freshness of their sushi. As such, the hamachi and sashimi are good, and the black cod and the spicy tuna are hits. All in all, the food, drink, and décor at Ozumo are definitely worth checking out.
