Whether you’re angling to catch a glimpse of the fashion-forward creations emerging from San Francisco’s hottest design studios or simply desperate for a proper occasion to break out that über-trendy outfit, San Francisco Fashion Week 2007 has you covered. MetroWize Culture Correspondent Barbara R. previews this showcase of San Francisco style.
Style-savvy city slickers are in for a sweet treat next week, with the fourth annual San Francisco Fashion Week hitting the city. Running from August 22nd - 26th, San Francisco Fashion Week 2007 will spotlight the talents of over twenty local designers as they debut their Spring 2008 collections. The events are largely open to the public, with tickets granting access to professional runway shows, industry-related workshops and seminars, and of course, a chance to truly celebrate San Francisco style at nightly after-parties.
The fashion-centric week kicks off on Wednesday, August 22nd with Gen Art's Fresh Faces in Fashion at The Regency Center (although technically this isn’t an official SF Fashion Week event). There, six emerging designers will show their lines before a 1,000 person audience, undoubtedly hoping to trace the successful path of designers like Zac Posen and Rebecca Taylor, who also first gained runway exposure through Fresh Faces in Fashion.
In addition to the exhilarating blur of nightly runway shows, San Francisco Fashion Week 2007 has organized many industry workshops with topics like Catwalk Choreography, Careers in Fashion, Couture Drawing and The Art of the Fashion Photo Shoot. Other extras offered during the week include the chance to bid on design students’ interpretations of the trusty classic “little black dress”, a display in the Appel & Frank Shopping Boutique of costumes designed by Isaac Mizrahi for various Mark Morris productions, and a performance on Friday night by the Grammy winning jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti, who also will be modeling in the Dcepcion show earlier in the night.
Whether or not you’re a fashion enthusiast, the after parties at Harlot, San Francisco Westfield Centre and Supperclub on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night promise to be fun times. You can raise a glass to toast either the hard work of the designers, models and producers in attendance, or simply your own interpretation of San Francisco style. Cheers!
