San Francisco Oysterfest - Shellfish Galore
By: Sebastian P. 04/15/09While rock music, beer, and oysters might not normally go together, they will all be thrown into the melting pot on May 16 and out will come the San Francisco OysterFest 2009, the largest Oyster festival on the west coast, promising to draw over 15,000 people to the Great Meadow at Fort Mason.
This 10th annual event centers around the unique combination of oysters and stout and is supported by a diverse cast of contemporary live musicians. If you're into oysters, this event will probably make you sick of them by the end, because on the weekend of May 16 you will be able to gorge on fresh oysters for 14 hours with your oyster eating compadres, ultimately resulting in hundreds of thousands of the shellfish eaten.
There will also be a number of interesting sideshows and competitions, such as the Shuck and Suck competition, the Oyster History Exhibition and Oyster Cooking demonstration. The music schedule is as follows:
Saturday, May 16th - Noon to 7pm
Micheal Franti and Spearhead
The Greyboy Allstars
Poor Man's Whiskey
ShantyTown
One-day tickets start at $20; special reserve $60. For more information, check out the SF Oysterfest website.
