While Celtic punk and rock music, beer, and oysters might not normally go together, they will all be thrown into the melting pot on May 17 and 18 and out will come the San Francisco OysterFest 2008, the largest Oyster festival on the west coast, promising to draw over 15,000 people to the Great Meadow at Fort Mason.

This 9th annual event centers around the unique combination of oysters and stout and is supported by a diverse cast of contemporary live musicians. If you're into oysters, this event will probably make you sick of them by the end, because on the weekend of May 17th and May 18th you will be able to gorge on fresh oysters for 14 hours with your oyster eating compadres, ultimately resulting in hundreds of thousands of the shellfish eaten.

There will also be a number of interesting sideshows and competitions, such as the Shuck and Suck competition, the Oyster History Exhibition and Oyster Cooking demonstration. The music schedule is as follows:

Saturday, May 17th - Noon to 7pm
The Dropkick Murphys
Juliette Lewis and the Licks
Yard Dogs Road Show
Eoin Harrington

Sunday May 18th - Noon to 7pm
She and Him (feat. Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward)
Mother Hips
Chuck Prophet & the Mission Express
Whispertown 2000

One-day tickets start at $20; two-day tickets are $35. For more information, check out the SF Oysterfest website.
