Temple nightclub is one of the newest additions to the San Francisco nightlife scene. This 4 room mega club has a capacity of 1000+ and as a major venue, the headliners are usually national acts, if not international. Temple is the first part of Paul Hemming's (the owner) master plan called the Zen Center, which will be a complex complete with spas, restaurants and other establishments.
The good and bad of Temple is that it doesn’t seem to have a consistent sense of style when it comes to booking acts. This means that if you show up, you might be listening to Drum and Bass or you might get house music. That said, if the Drum n Bass is Diesel Boy or LTJ Bukem, and the House music is Eric Morillo, (all recent headliners), then the only problem is if you don’t check-in before you go.
Inside, the club is a multi-room party palace, with a huge white main room, a balcony, and an enormous basement that looks like an ancient Egyptian museum on ecstasy. There’s usually a line, so it’s best to get there before 11 or after 1:30. The club has a late night permit, so big parties go till the wee hours. Also, it’s only fair to mention that reviews have been somewhat pessimistic about the VIP bottle service--sounds like people should skip that.
Prior to the clubbing hour, the main floor is used for dinners at the middle eastern fusion restaurant Prana, (located in the same building), which might be a nice place to go if you’re lazy and want to chill in the same space all night. While the Metrowize staff has not been to this restaurant, we hear it’s good.
