World Series of Beer Pong
The World Series of Beer Pong

The road to the final cup is on, with the World Series of Beer Pong V Championships just weeks away and taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. What started as a simple game of beer pong between a group of college friends has turned into a global phenomenon. According to one of its founders, Billy Gaines, it's not about the beer nor about about getting drunk; no, this game is about the friendly competition and making new friends while beating your opponent. Players do that by psyching each other out through distractions. Some avid tournament players dress up in costumes, from scantily clad bikini vixens to diaper-wearing boys, all to get their opponents' head out of the game.

But don’t get it wrong- they’re not just playing around. For these guys and girls, beer pong is a sport and they come to compete. Many practice day and night to hone their skills for the big game, even carrying around their own tables to practice at a moments notice. And with a $50,000 cash prize and bragging rights on the line, it’s a no-holds-barred game that pits man against cup.

Many may not know that in this league players don’t have to actually drink the beer they play with (and, like Rock Stars' underwear, spectators will try to covet it). And unlike playing at home, only 24 ounces of beer is used during one game and only 6 of the 10 cups are filled with beer (the back 4 cups are filled with water). Games are played on official 8-foot BPONG tables with official Pong balls. That’s not all: the World Series of Beer Pong has a strict list of rules and Regulation and a code of conduct to follow. Our favorite is "The Dipshit Not Paying Attention Rule". This isn’t your typical college kids beer pong game. Here it's serious and if you come to play you'd better bring your A-game.

So if you think you have the skills to go up against some of the worlds best beer pong players then head to the Flamingo Las Vegas from January 1 – 5. Registration is open now with packages starting at $500 per person, including hotel stay and a minimum of 12 games of beer pong. Registration closes December 10th, so get moving! Sign up here.

GetWize: The WSOBP (yeah they have an acronym) is the largest, longest-running organized beer pong tournament in the world, created by beer pong players for beer pong players. Last years' event drew over 800 participants from 45+ US states and 5 Canadian provinces (do Canadians play with maple syrup or beer?). For more information check out their website.
