Bacon to Drink!

What's shakin'? Bacon! Bacon in a cup. You know you're chic if you've got a bacon-derived cocktail in your hand. Need some inspiration? Check out these three fancy places across the country that like it slimy and meat-tinged.

The Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas proudly claims to have perfected the Bacon Martini. Their recipe: Bacon-infused vodka, Tabasco, olive juice, a lil bacon grease for the edge, and a slice of bacon garnish.

Capitol Club in Seattle serves a Chocolate Bacon Martini. Candied bacon infused vodka mixed with Godiva chocolate liquor and a splash of cream.

New York bar PDT blends bacon-infused bourbon with maple syrup, bitters, and a twist of orange to make their Benton’s Old Fashioned.

For the enthusiast reading this and salivating, well, to each his own. Here's a home-made bacon vodka recipe you can try concocting. Have yourself a Cloud Martini or pump up your Bloody Mary. One idea we found suggests pouring the mix in a spray bottle to add a spritz of smoky greasiness to salads, toast and stew.

Bacon Vodka

Fry three strips of bacon.
Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar. If you're a little OCD, trim the ends of the bacon if they're too tall to fit in the jar. If you're sloppy and excited, just pile in a bunch of fried up bacon scraps.
As an optional kicker, add crushed black peppercorns.
Fill the jar with vodka. Cap and place in a dark cupboard for three weeks. No need to refrigerate.
At the end of three weeks, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter and you're left with a pale yellow bacon vodka.

Decant into a nice swine-shaped bottle and pig out!

For the vegetarians and observant Jews, we have something for you, too. Go buy some Bacon Salt, a zero calorie, vegetarian and kosher seasoning you can use to spice up a cocktail while your friends glug the real grease.
