Before we get into the burly beers its important to note that there are manly light beers as well as girly light beers. Heineken Light and Amstel Light are like male cheerleaders - sure it's a girls sport but they're so tough they don't care about gender roles; for them its all about basket tosses and cradle catches. On the other hand, you have really girly light beers like Michelob Light, which is like drinking a white wine spritzer and watching Sex in the City while getting a brazilian.

These next beers are the burly ones. The kind your dad and the brawny man drank in the seventies, when both women and chests were hairy, mustaches weren't ironic and a beer was beer. These are the New Castles, Sierra Nevadas, Guinness, Boddingtons, IPAs and Stouts. There's a bite, a hoppy, cocky swagger in these types of beers that let you know what you have in your hand is what makes you a man, and that secretly Dirty Harry was kind of a wuss.

Whatever you end up ordering, don't forget to bottom up, be responsible and have fun. Josh Groban once said, "Booze is the mistress but beer will always be the wife". Cheers.
