Ray’s Ben’s, Lombardi’s, Otto’s and an Artichoke…The names of pizza eateries can be hard to keep track of! Lucky for you MetroWize has gathered the best pizza spots in New York from the greatest places to cure your late night pizza cravings to the classiest Pizza places around. MetroWize is giving you the guide to the best New York Pizza
Ray’s
I can count at least a handful of different Ray’s Pizzas around Manhattan, each swearing that it is the most famous or the original. The truth is it doesn’t matter; Ray’s Pizza is an NYC staple of monumental proportions. The one we’ve listed here is located in Soho around the corner from some of NYC’s best nightlife spots. It’s the place to go if you want a quick, delicious slice. Top it with whatever you want; you really can’t go wrong.
27 Prince Street
Two Boots
Then there’s the fusion pizza. Two boots is named after the two regions that influence the cuisine: the boot-shaped Italy and the boot-shaped Louisiana. Two Boots is the place to go if you like some kick to your slice. The amazing pizza sauce is laced with spices (and maybe crack…it’s that good) and seasoned to perfection. Create your own, or try one of the house specialties concocted for you. They all have fantastic names, just for fun: try the Cleopatra Jones or the Tony Clifton they are a couple of my favorites.
74 Bleecker street
Ben’s
I hope you can keep all these names straight. Ben’s is unassuming at first glance. It’s located dangerously close to NYU’s campus, so you know it’s open at all hours of the night. If you’re feeling adventurous or want a true New York classic try the Grandma Slice: a bevy of tomato sauce with basil and 2 types of cheese will make you never think about plain cheese again. It’s cheap, it’s good—perfect if you’re on Macdougal and have the drunchies.
123 Macdougal St.
Artichoke
The same goes for this joint located near Union Square. The only difference is you’re likely to find a line stretching out the door on late nights. It can be a drag, but it’s that good. The buttery, gooey cheese over the perfectly toasted thin New York crust is so, so worth it. And I have friends who swear it has the power to cure hangovers.
328 E 14th St.
Two Bros.
Let’s talk about the greatness that is Two Bros. located at the heart of St. Marks, this place sells slices for a dollar each, which I have to say, is one of the best deals in town. Not only that. The pizza is actually really good. Perfect for a quick bite anytime you want a pizza snack. Beware; these are fresh, fresh out of the oven, so eat slowly, especially if impaired. (We hear they make over 300 pizzas a day, and we believe it) The roof of your mouth will thank you in the morning.
32 St. Marks Pl.
Lombardi’s
Lombardi’s might sound familiar because it’s kind of a big deal. They say (even on the website) that Lombardi’s was the first American Pizzeria. That said, it’s a bastion of Little Italy, even though, strangely enough, it’s actually located a few blocks north in Nolita, on Spring St. They’ve been doing it a long time, and they do it well. If you’re looking for a fun, New York dinner out with friends, it’s the place to go. They sell only by the pie (not by the slice), so bring your appetite.
32 Spring St.
Otto
Pizza can be fancy. Mario Batali (of Food Network fame) does fancy and delicious pizza at his restaurant Otto. His pizzas are creative and thoughtful, and just really good. Good place for a special occasion.
1 5th Ave.
L’Ulivo
Truffle oil is good on everything, but truffle oil is amazing on pizza. This place makes a pizza called Tartufata—a white pizza topped with mushrooms and drizzled with truffle oil—that will melt your tongue and somehow make you feel expensive for only 12 bucks.
184 Spring St.
Co.
Co. Is a recent addition to the Chelsea dining scene and is already known as some of the best Pizza NYC has to offer. Boasting a menu that makes you feel like you’re in Southern Italy instead of Manhattan. On top of how good the pizza is, there are also a bevy of cocktails and other Italian treats to please your taste buds!
230 9th Ave.
