Hot Summer Shows Coming Your Way

It's summer time in SF and although that doesn't necessarily mean that the weather is any better, it does mean that some of the biggest names in the scene are headed our way as they tour around the country and sometimes world. Bands like Justice and Radiohead are headlining events that will get national attention but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Check out our picks for big events hitting town this summer.

Crystal Method
Big-Beat duo Crystal Method will be taking their Grammy-nominated music to Ruby Skye in the middle of summer. Expect huge build ups and cutting edge music blasting from the clubs speakers and a packed to the rafters house.

Blank & Jones
Blank & Jones' deliberately simple dance music dominated the top of Germany's dance charts during the country's late-'90s trance explosion, and their frequent trips to San Francisco should be a hint as to how popular they are in the city. They just released a new CD, "The Logic of Pleasure," so you can expect some of the new tracks to appear in the show.

Sound Tribe Sector Nine
Since day one, STS9 has been renowned for their high-energy live shows and impeccable live instrumental experimentation. The group combines electro-pop, funk, drum n bass, hip-hop, ambient, dub, synths, and just about anything else they can find in their music arsenal. They could probably take out a couple of bagpipes in a live show and make them sound good. Because of this there's a huge cult following around SF, for good reason. Oh yeah, it's also at the Greek in August... Dope.

Where you can find them: Greek Theater, August 16

People Under The Stairs
Self-proclaimed B-Boys Thes One and Double K will be throwing it down at Rock the Bells with a mixture of high energy, explosive beats, and intricate lyrics. When they're live, the duo mixes fast-paced lyricism from Thes One and headbanging hooks from Double K. But what sets them apart from other groups is their on-stage humor and extensive crowd interaction. So just a warning: don't be surprised to be called out in one of their freestyles if you're wearing any clothes from L.A, their home town.

Radiohead
Radiohead makes this list for a few reasons, but it mainly boils down to the experience and their prolific status as a world-renowned band. Seeing a Radiohead show is rare enough--they only tour every few years, if that--but the icing on the cake here is that they're playing In San Francisco. In Golden Gate Park. You can't get much of a better venue than that. Did we mention they are playing at Outside Lands which will undoubtedly be THE concert event of the season? So go out and check them out, if not for anything else but to say to your friends that you went to a Radiohead show.

Where you can find them: Outside Lands Festival, August 22

Justice
Justice has only recently burst onto the dance/techno scene lately with their breakthrough CD "Cross," and while people may think that they can't transfer the energy that's on their album to the stage, think again: Much like Daft Punk (many believe Justice is the "Next Daft Punk"), this particular French music duo also combines samples from all their songs to create new, mashed-up tracks. But don't fret if you're a traditionalist--you can expect them to throw down their original tracks too. Bottom line: If you aren't dancing your ass off at a Justice concert, we're not sure you have a soul.

Where can you find them: Treasure Island Music Festival, September 20

Armin Van Buuren
We almost left this one without any description, pretty much because "AVB" doesn't need one. But we should let you know that Armin will be playing the LoveFest afterparty at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. And seeing as how he's the number 1 DJ in the world--yes, world--you can expect trance fans from all over to be attending this one, because it's gonna be big. Real big.

Where can you find him: Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, October 4
Wanna go? Tickets haven't been released yet, but you know we'll be the first to hook you up. Dollaz!
