Coney Island
The Coney Island Daycation: Beer Island

What's better than drinking cold suds while soaking up Helios' rays on a sun-drenched day in the Big Apple? Nothing, and I mean nothing. That's the idea behind Beer Island, located next to the famous Coney Island Boardwalk on Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. Adjacent to the world-renowned, historic Cyclone Roller Coaster and Dino's Wonder Wheel, Beer Island is the perfect complement to a glorious beach day. On Friday and Saturday summer nights, you can down your favorite brews while watching bombs bursting in air, hence Coney Island fireworks.

What Beer Island lacks in flashy décor, it makes up for it with a fun atmosphere and a solid stock of fine beers, including bottled selections such as Bud Light, Corona, Amstel Light, Heineken, Samuel Adams, Molson Golden, Chinay Anjong, Guinness Stout, Stella Artois, Michelob, Blue Moon, Fosters, Becks, Large Coney Island Cans, Bud, Coors and Pabst Blue Ribbon. For the tap aficionados, there's Moretti, Paulaner, Rodenberger, UFO Wheat, Coney Island Lager, Yuengling and Blue Moon. As for wines, white, red, blush and sangria make the list. Beer Island also serves bottled water, Snapple, regional sodas (Old Brooklyn Coney Island Cream Soda), Perrier, Pellegrino and Newman's own.

And since you've hoofed all the way out there, you might as well make sure to visit the NY Aquarium, Luna Park or catch the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team at MCU Park. Or grab a Nathan's hot dog. Those things are always delicious.

GetWize: Although Beer Island doesn't serve food, you can grab your munchies at Bar-B-Que Island or Chicken Island (yes, we're serious) - though judging by their web photos it may be wiser to bring your own fare (which you're welcome to do as well).

Beer Island is located at 3070 Stillwell Avenue, between Bowery St & W Boardwalk.
