Jack White starts a new band every year it seems, but each one turns a page in his music book rather than rehashing the White Stripes in any way (though we miss The White Stripes a bit). Alison Mosshart of The Kills takes most of the vocal work with her rusty rock and rolla vibe, and Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age and Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs fill out the sound. The Dead Weather has been together since March 2009 and their two singles, “Hang You From The Heavens” and “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” are both strange lyrically and forceful rock jams. It sure looks funny when you walk around the supermarket singing them, which is a good thing.
GetWize: The Dead Weather plays two shows while in Los Angeles. 8/25 at the Wiltern and 8/26 at the Mayan. The Mayan is an amazing venue. They perhaps sequestered a piece of the aggro-crag to form the walls.
