From Your Cell Phone to the Big Screen: The Disposable Film Festival

Ever think you could be a director? Well, maybe not. But you could imagine what it would be like if you were, right? The Disposable Film Festival, which runs from January 29th – Feb 1st at select venues around SF, is dedicated to bringing amateur filmmakers to the big screen. With the wild success of user generated video sites and cell phone video cameras, we are all becoming filmmakers – some of us are just better than others.

For the second year in a row, The Disposable Film Festival celebrates our creative minds through the art of short films shot on disposable devices – video from cell phones, point and shoot cameras, webcams and other quick video capturing devices. The DFF proves that cell phone video cameras can actually be used for creative purposes, not just for recording concerts from the nose bleeds or your buddy jumping off a roof.

DFF films will be viewed at The Roxie Theater January 29th at 8pm. Tickets are only $12 and you’ll get a chance to view a variety of short films and actually speak with the some of the directors who made them at a sponsored after party at Dalva. On Jan 30th and 31st, the DFF will host two artist profiles, where Red Bucket Films and Fritz Donnelly will share their experiences with filmmaking and art. The final day is reserved for a filmmaking panel for anyone interested in film, short film, disposable video and technology. All questions are welcome and admission is free.

So whether you're an up and coming director, actor, film student or someone who just appreciates a good video when they see it, The Disposable Film Festival is good times to be had.
