The word “tonalism” refers to low-toned atmospheric landscape painting. In the hands of L.A.’s radio-visual collective Dublab and Big Sur’s FolkYEAH, Tonalism translates to mid-week road trip to Big Sur and an all-night concert of trippy ambient music and mind-melting visuals. Inspired by La Monte Young’s “Dream House” and the likes of Yoko Ono and John Cage, the event starts at 4:20 pm—hmm, wonder what tone that will set—on Thursday, May 28, and ends at 5 am. Here’s incentive to tag on, or linger after, the Animal Collective show taking place the 27th at Henry Miller Library.
GetWize: Immerse in nature and weird sounds by Windy & Carl, White Rainbow, Mia Doi Todd (who does chill with a flute vibe), and more like-minded artists on multiple stages. There will be fire and heat lamps, but the majestic Big Sur coast gets freaking cold so bring along sleeping bags. The party provides free tea and water all night long.
