Jace Clayton (aka DJ /rupture) has garnered many accolades from discerning critics with his densely layered, eclectic mix albums and chaotic 3-deck live performances. Clayton draws upon a wide range of influences along with his deep record crates to create wild, aggressive sonic collages that often have a disorienting effect on listeners. He is sometimes viewed as a contemporary version of DJ Spooky, who is famous for pioneering the “illbient” sound in New York during the mid-90’s.

A typical /rupture set runs through a gamut of bass heavy genres like commercial rap, thundering ragga dancehall, drum and bass, and exotic Middle Eastern music. This approach could easily lead to an unfocused, incoherent sound but Clayton has proven himself adept at taking disparate musical elements and fusing them into a relentlessly danceable groove. A perfect example of /rupture’s unique aesthetic is the highly regarded mix album “Minesweeper Suite”, one of Wire magazine’s 10 best records of 2002. During this intense session, Clayton breaks down the barriers between various genres and skillfully blends the work of artists like Nina Simone, Aaliyah, Roberta Flack, DAT Politics, Kid 606, and Cex.

On Saturday, August 23rd, DJ /rupture will be bringing his dynamic 3-deck assault to Club Six for the monthly Surya Dub party. The Surya crew has been on a hot streak as of late and their parties are known for drawing a positive, diverse crowd who come to dance and enjoy the music. The San Francisco Bay Guardian gave them a shout-out in their “Best of the Bay 2008” issue for being the “Best Ambassadors of Dread Bass”. Also on hand during the evening are selectors Dave Q, Miss Haze, and Bay Area favorite I-Vier. This party is going to be completely off the hook so don’t miss it!
