The plug has been pulled on Energy 92.7, San Francisco's only purely dance music FM radio station, and according to a few sources (like their facebook page and The Examiner) it came in the form of a hostile corporate take over. Ed Stolz (former owner of KWOD in Sacramento, and current owner of 2 stations in Vegas) purchased Energy for $6.5 million and has decided that the station would be better off starting over. Apparently the entire 92.7 staff was shown the door and and the underside of a boot. Word on the airwaves is that the station has gone to a hip hop and top 40 format but the long term plan for the station is still a bit foggy.
The community is speaking out on the 92.7 Facebook page.
Here are a few snippets...
"I honestly don't know what to do with myself in the mornings anymore. I'm seriously upset that I can't wake up to Fernando and Greg anymore. GRRRRR!!!!"
"My drive to work today was horrible. Fernando and Greg game me the motivation to kick start my day. What a sad, sad thing to happen to the best station in SF."
"Energy was unlike anything else I've heard on the radio and that's why I listened online from the East Coast every day. You'll be missed."
