Since the late 60's, the Fillmore has been a historic music venue that has played host to bands like the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, the Smashing Pumpkins, and more. This summer, their lineup includes an eclectic group of artists, and we've picked five of them that you can't miss.
N.E.R.D
When:July 21
N.E.R.D--short for No-one Ever Really Dies--is a hip-hop and soul group that has toured and collaborated with artists the likes of Britney Spears and Kanye West. But don't fear--when they're not out playing with big-name artists like those two, they're playing music that sounds far more underground than mainstream.
Chromeo
When: July 29
Chromeo has been picking up a lot of steam in the past year after they released their album "Fancy Footwork." They have already released three singles from their album, and many fans dig their electrofunk, dance-pop style, which one critic has called "a return to the glistening, sex-saturated synth-pop which ruled the eighties."
Ratatat
When: September 9
Ratatat has been on a tear lately. They released their Ratatat Remixes Volume 2 in 2007 to the delight of their fans, and their new album "LP3" is coming out this week. Expect the band's big bass beats and electronic music to resonate through the walls of the Fillmore in early September.
Hieroglyphics
When: September 18
Formed by underground rapper Del the Funky Homosapien, San Francisco-native Hieroglyphics are an underground hip-hop collective known for their intelligent, complex lyrics and jazzy beats and samples. They've amassed a small but extremely dedicated following, with some people even tattooing Hieroglyphics' ubiquitous "third eye" logo on their bodies.
Spoon
When: September 22-24
You may have heard Indie-Alt-Rock Band Spoon's in a youtube video of a dancing robot or on the dozens of late night talk shows and TV shows, but just because they've hit the mainstream doesn't mean they've sold out: They're still the same band playing their quirky music that they did over 10 years ago.
