Flair Bartender World Championships Hit LAX

The annual Legends of Bartending competition is returning to Las Vegas and will be taking over LAX Nightclub at the Luxor to appoint the next “World’s Greatest Bartender.” Approximately 70 professional flair bartenders from around the world will compete for the title and a piece of the $25,000 in cash and prizes.

Flair is a style of bartending that is older than the Civil War. The sport’s roots can be drawn back to the mid 1800s when Jerry “the professor” Thomas performed “flair” whenever he made his Blue Blazer, pouring flaming scotch and water from mug to mug creating an arc of fire. This “father of American mixology” earned around $100 a week for his craft which was more swag than the Vice President was raking in at the time.

History aside, at this eleven year old competition you will witness bartending genius at close range. Advanced and Pro competitors will compete from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. on March 2nd in three rounds (speed, accuracy and flair) that will whittle the competition down to nine superstars. The qualifying round is open to the public and finalists will be announced at 10:30pm. On March 3rd, the main event will take place from 7:30-11:30 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 12:30 a.m. with an after-party directly following inside LAX. Be sure to bring your own curly straw.
