The Fox Theater in Oaktown is back. The much-anticipated and long-awaited return will become the flagship live music venue for Another Planet Entertainment in February of 2009. APE is known for bringing the best musical performers to The Greek Theatre, The Independent, Paramount Theatre and the Oracle Arena among others. They’re also the guys who put on the Outside Lands and Treasure Island Music Festivals, so get excited.
A complete renovation of The Fox Theater includes seating capacity ranging from 1,500 to 2,800 and a beautifully remodeled interior. Aesthetically speaking, the building is one of the most remarkable landmarks in the area. They even have gold Buddha-looking figures hanging on the walls.
By day, the theater will house the Oakland School for the Arts, a tuition-free charter school for artistic and academic development. By night, it’ll shape shift like Optimus Prime and become one of most kick ass venues in the bay - fully loaded with bars, restaurants and the top musical acts around.
The rebirth of The Fox Theater aims to revitalize Oakland’s Uptown entertainment district, and give new life to the city. Only a half block from BART, The Fox Theater is accessible for pretty much any of the 7.5 million Bay Area residents. Go check out a show, get some good eats and support the arts.
