If there’s one thing New York can’t get enough of, its good music. Lucky East Coasters, here’s yet another summer music festival to add to the list -- the inaugural Governor’s Ball Music Festival happens just a hop, skip and a ferry ride away from Manhattan on Governor’s Island. It’s scheduled for June 18, which in NYC festival-speak is sometime before Labor Day Weekend’s Electric Zoo and Camp Bisco, and right in the middle of Williamsburg’s Northside Festival.
This all-ages festival features a stylistically mixed bill with a variety of indie rock, electronica, dance and hip-hop acts booked to perform. Headlining acts include Girl Talk, Pretty Lights and Big Boi, of Outkast. Check out the full lineup below, but stay tuned for more additions. We’re especially digging the fact that festival organizers have promised that there will be no overlapping sets. Here’s to getting more bang for your buck!
Speaking of bucks, Limited & Early Bird passes have already sold out, but you can still get your hands on regular tickets for $95 or VIP passes at $150 (which get you access to the VIP lounge, exclusive viewing areas, special restrooms and the soothing ministrations of a masseuse, among other fancy perks)
Short on the moolah or want to get your groupie on? Try your luck at the Gov Ball’s Dance Off contest -- record a 15 – 60 second clip of you and/or your friends dancing, post it on their Facebook wall and you could win backstage passes, autographed merchandise, festival merchandise and more. Contest ends 6pm on Friday, May 20th and submissions will be judged on creativity, difficulty/”talent”, hilariousness, ridiculousness, and overall awesomeness.
