Eco-LA is so post taco on wheels greasery. A fleet of lime-colored Green Trucks are bent on taking over smog city. Any given weekday, you may pass one parked beside the La Brea tar pits. The aroma of organic “Mother Trucker” vegan burgers and breakfast burritos on sprouted tortilla mingles with fresh-squeezed mojito tea pouring into cups produced from corn (they look like regular plastic cups, set aside any fantasy of drinking from a husk). Solar panels on the roof, pointing up to the sun, power the kitchen. And the strapping, tan, hippie-esque men flashing white teeth while tying on their aprons can’t wait to ask, “Would you like locally-grown tossed salad or Sweet Potato chips with that?” Fraternization with the staff is not only encouraged, it’s hard to resist.
Stalking Wilshire Blvd by day and hunting for the garage in Culver City where the veggie oil-fueled trucks sleep at night may enjoyably preoccupy your thoughts, but it’s not entirely necessary. Just call them up and they’ll deliver, with a minimum price according to zip code. Picking 25 dollars worth of food shouldn’t be too difficult. Pesticide-free goodness and peace of eco-conscious mind don’t come cheap. Or, have the Green Truck cater your next event or festival, if your pockets are green enough. They’ve served up grub at the Venice Beach Eco-fest, the Roller Derby, and brought organic goodness to the desert at the Joshua Tree Music Festival. You never know when they might pop up. In fact, perhaps you should move your desk closer to the window, just in case.
