Japan has made some pretty noteworthy additions to the food industry in modern times. They've pumped out Sushi, Sashimi, instant noodles, discovered MSG, the bento box, Kobe Beef, Sake and now, crepes. Although it may not be the same as eating crepes in Japan, the newly opened Harajuku Crepe in Beverly Hills is a unique alternative to the traditional French crepes you find in most restaurants. Apparently the first crepe shop opened in Harajuku, a hot neighborhood in Tokyo known for its cutting-edge fashion, in the 80's and the trend exploded. Now you can try an organic version right in Beverly Hills.
Tokyo-style crepes differ from French crepes in a few ways: they are made with pancake mix and less butter (this helps validate eating more than one). They tend to be topped with fresh and uncooked ingredients like fruit and whipped cream, and are always served in a cone as opposed to a plate- this makes 'em easier to munch on the go. Harajuku crepes embraces all of these differences, and takes it a step further by going organic.
These fully customizeable crepes start with the option of regular, buckweat or green tea batter. Then you add your fruit, whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate or nutella. Harajuku Crepe is a restaurant that will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth, yet the healthy ingredients make your Japanese crepe experience something you won’t regret trying. From frosty to sizzling, customers have the option to order their dessert at whatever temperature would like. If you're in the mood for something savory, you can try one of their salad crepes, filled with either ham salad, tuna salad or the vegetarian spinach salad. Patrons can also sample some authentic Japanese tea, which is not always easy to come by in the United States.
GetWize: Located at 9405 S. Santa Monica Blvd, Harajuku Crepe is situated in Beverly Hills near North Beverly Drive. While their website isn't up quite yet, you can check out their menu online by clicking here.
