Hi Lo Club - Polk Gulch - San Francisco
Now Open: Hi Lo Club

One by one the San Francisco dive bar scene seems to be dying off, gentrified by a smattering of new digs you either love or hate. But there's one new bar that's straddling the line of new and old, dive and dapper - Polk Street's latest Hi Lo Club, serving up drinks to please both sides of the spectrum.

Outfitted with the old bar rail from the TL's late Koko Cocktails, a vintage tin ceiling direct from NYC, and refurbished benches from defunct cable cars, Hi Lo succeeds at that perfect blend of grit and glam. With faux aged walls and antique touches, it's tough to remember that this bar hasn't been a Polk Street fixture for decades.

The menu keeps it classy without the "cocktail club" pretension. Twelve taps offer a California-only selection with plenty of Belgian bottles to make up the difference. Treat yourself to low-brow brews like the Modelo Fully Loaded (can of Modelo, twist of lime, rimmed with salt/cayenne pepper), or upgrade with classic cocktails like the Rittenhouse Rye Manhattan. Stay tuned for a retro, lever-operated coffee press that'll be serving up your caffeine fix street-side.

Check out a few recent reviews of Hi Lo Club on Yelp to see get an idea of what people are saying about the new bar:

"I loved KoKo's and I'm happy to see them move, expand, redux and impress. The space is huge and looks great. Plenty of seating and plenty of room. Polk St. is officially bar hopper's heaven. The block they're on now has everything you could possibly want." - Corey V.

"Big fan of these folks and really appreciate the thought that went behind every detail of this bar. Most of the items are up and recycled materials that were carefully hand picked. It is all love, good service an awesome cocktails here. And this time, there is even wine on tap! Yes, wine!" - Lisa Kim J.
