Traversing the Highlands of Hollywood

High above the Chinese Theater and the Supermans and Hulks, a good time awaits at the Highlands Hollywood nightclub. Let's start at the beginning.

One of the best things about this place is the abundant parking! The venue itself is on the fourth floor of a huge mall in the middle of Hollywood. Parking is two dollars for the first four hours and once you park, it’s a brief walk to the club's front door. I arrived early, around ten, but Highlands traditionally allows entrance in a little after that. Meanwhile, the dinner crowd ushered out—the Highlands renovated restaurant serves a tasty Wolfgang Puck menu. Cover starts at $10 for guys and free for girls, with bottles starting at about $200.

The party itself was a lot of fun with a mixed crowd. Security acted in a professional demeanor and the bar staff is hard-working. The interior of the club is nice too: clean, simple. They have fully stocked bars in all corners of the venue, so drinks flow freely with no lines. There's also plenty of room to dance, which is perfect after a few cocktails. The dance floor is huge and right in the middle of the club. The Highlands mostly spins hip-hop and Top 40, some of it mixed with house and trance grooves - but this all depends on the DJ. A sizable outdoor patio affords space to those in need of cigarette breaks, quieter mingling, or catching your breath from the dance floor.

At the end of the night, security ushered everyone out in a well-organized fashion. They'll even grab your credit card or ID for you right away if you leave it at the bar. It's impressive how much the staff emphasizes customer service. So, a quick recap:

PROS:
- Well priced drinks
- Ample parking
- Good-looking, mixed crowd
- Good music
- Tasty drinks (the Martinis are excellent)
- High-energy atmosphere
