Comedy Day in the Park 2007 - Preview
By: Doug Madey 09/19/07On Sunday September 30th, For the 27th year in a row, the stage is set for side splitting laughter. Comedy Day in the Park is upon us, so make plans for another afternoon of FREE stand up comedy and, fingers crossed... sunshine!
This annual event, taking place at Sharon Meadows (for all the crunchy people out there, that's right across from Hippy Hill), is busting a gut for its 27th year. With the upcoming lineup of performers there seems to be no end in sight in terms of quality of entertainment. 30 comedians will grace the microphone and perform from Noon-5pm, with very few pauses making for nonstop laughs.
You can expect top-notch talent from the dark, smoky corners of clubs and the bright stages of sold out auditoriums at this event. This years’ performers include Bay Area favorite Will Franken, Tonight Show regulars Darren Carter and Paula Poundstone, and political satirist Will Durst- who is essential to any great San Francisco comedy show. In addition to the set list of performers you never know who's going to show up- Robin Williams stormed the stage in years past with his constant barrage of voices and screwed up faces.
Still skeptical on the funny factor of Comedy Day? Well, those few cynics out there can take comfort in the fact that Gordon Biersch will be sponsoring the event with plenty of their brews for sale if the comedy needs to be kicked up a notch. You'll be able to purchase other beverages as well as food, but this is a FREE event in the park, so don't hesitate to pack your own cooler full of snacks and booze to last throughout the afternoon.
You'll also be walking distance to Haight Street for any last minute purchases. And with that being said, you'll probably encounter the ever-present, unofficial “Free San Francisco Event Vendor,” who'll make sure you'll never go without special Rice Krispy Treats or crystals.
