If only Cinco De Mayo were a true national holiday and we could spend the entire day off, roaming Downtown between Olvera Street and City Hall, partying it up with mariachis, eating tacos, drinking micheladas, and buying tiny guitars off street vendors. L.A.'s biggest outdoor Cinco de Mayo festival takes place in front of City Hall, but for a more intimate affair, or for those with a fear of the outdoors, MetroWize thinks these events around town should do the trick:

Lucha VaVoom Presents Cinco de Mayan
The Mayan
1038 S. Hill St
(213) 746-4674
Girl fight, Mexican wrestling style! Lucha Va Voom brings you "Sexo y Violencia," a blend of burlesque, wrestling, and humor. For this special event, Aztec, go-go, and salsa dancers and a mariachi band enter the mix for good measure. Get a picture in the donkey photo booth. Tickets are $40.

The Echoplex
1154 Glendale Blvd.
(323) 413-8200
Psychobilly thrives at the fringes of Los Angeles, but for one night, the Echoplex is hosting a big-ass psychobilly/ska/punk affair featuring burlesque by La Cholita, tattooing courtesy of Into Pain Tattoo, "fyne art" from David Lozeau and Bigtoe, and more than eight bands, including Los Creepers, Viernes 13, and Resurex. Amazing pompadour hairdos and girls in tight knee-length skirts should fill the place.

Amoeba Music
6400 W Sunset Blvd
(323) 245-6400
Maybe leave your wallet in the car. At 7 pm, producer/DJ Chico Sonido from Mexico gets on the 1's and 2's with rare Mexican Cumbia and Sicodelico 45's. At 8 pm, Kinky's lead singer Gil Cerezo shows off the DJ in his heart, spinning Spanish pop, classic rock, and the latest dance cuts from Mexico.

Taco Bell does not equal Mexi-American pride. Here are a few suggestions on where to eat:

El Chavo Restaurant

From 4 pm to 2 am, the spot will serve $3 Tecate & Dos Equis, $6 margaritas, and $5 well drinks, along with dinner specials. The "Tecate Girls" will be around, if you need help opening a beer. Los Pochos will play music in the outdoor patio until 10 pm. The patio will be equipped with a Tecate draft beer bar so you don't have to go all the way back inside for another round.

El Carmen

With more than 100 different kinds of tequila, you can rest assured the red-themed El Carmen restaurant will be packed with margarita-heads and plenty of good-looking patrons who will look even better after a few rounds.

La Velvet Margarita Cantina

This celebrity-owned restaurant on the Cahuenga corridor doesn't seem flashy from the outside, but inside, sombreros line the walls and ceiling, and drunk, almost famous folks try to make a dent in monstrous burritos while famous folks gets their photos taken outside.
