This week in LA you can fill the week up with a little old, a little new, some dancing, and um, a little Counting Crows at the Greek Theater (7/21).
Infected Mushroom has been melting brains since the ‘90s. The Israeli psychedelic trance DJ duo now lives in Los Angeles (haven’t bumped into them at Intelligentsia yet), and are emerging for a night at Vanguard this Saturday (7/18). A few blocks away on the same night, Victor Calderone will spin house records at Avalon. Wouldn’t it be neat if Madonna showed up and sang to one of the songs he’s mixed for her over the years? Yeah, fat chance, though.
Want a history lesson? Legendary punk band the Germs play the El Rey Theatre this week (7/16). The song “Forming/Sexboy” is considered by many as the first punk album out of Los Angeles in the ‘70s. If you only know Pat Smear from the Foo Fighters and Nirvana, you need to reach a little further back!
For some local party time, drop in at Pershing Square downtown on Wednesday night (7/15) for a free concert with rising indie band Fol Chen and the wild 60 Watt Kid.
Obey Giant and MFG are celebrating the 3-year anniversary of weekly event Dance Right at La Cita on Thursday night (7/16) and on Saturday, MFG and Vice Magazine host Volume 5 of the L.A. Colt Guide Parties with Har Mar Superstar, Brother Read, and Blank Blue at Hollywood’s 3 of Clubs, with free Colt 45 (7/18). Get out there, rub elbows with familiar faces, and get your picture taken by Shadowscene as proof.
