Welcome to another week, Los Angeles, the final week of July. Let’s begin with rappers and punks as Crystal Antlers, Mika Miko, and Audacity, three of L.A.’s rising punk bands play Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, and Themselves brings a rap attack to Spaceland in Silverlake (7/29). Moving on, friends Deerhoof and Busdriver join together at the Echoplex on Friday, and this is sure to be a night filled with special guests and amazing collaborations you won’t want to miss. Unless, you prefer to delve into your younger self with Reel Big Fish and English Beat at Club Nokia (7/31).
For your DJ-centric fix, LA Riots are spinning at Bardot (7/31), and Jujubeats Festival takes over Orange County Friday until Sunday with camping and an all-star DJ lineup. DJ Heather, Glitch Mob, DJ Dan, Bassnectar, Donald Glaude, and Mark Farina will be dropping beats until the masses drop out like flies (8/1). If that’s not enough, AC Slater visits DJ Paparazzi’s Dance at Arena tonight (7/28), and Le Castle Vania will fly in for the following Tuesday (8/4).
In an unexpected pairing, Franki Chan will warm up the dancefloor for the great Lykke Li at the Wiltern (8/4). While the Swedish cutie gets everyone drooling over her dance moves and kazoo skills, England’s Ting Tings, Hot Tub, and Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head go nuts at Club Nokia (8/4).
As you wonder how to pay the rent this month, and why the summer has gone by faster than a flash in the pan, you can at least take comfort in some good old entertainment. See you at the club.
