This Week in LA 7/8 - 7/14

Welcome to this week, Los Angeles. For those itching to rave, take a road trip to Whittier dressed in citrus-themed attire for the Fresh Squeezed Festival (7/11). Franki Chan is representing Los Angeles, accompanied by his Iheartcomix label-mates, NY’s Designer Drugs, along with DJs from distant shores, including Ricky Stone from the Far East, and Dash Berlin of the Netherlands. Pacifiers are banned from the Pico Rivera Sports Arena. Plus, that’s so ‘90s.

Those uninterested in all you can eat free oranges should stick around for Andrew Bird at the Greek Theater (7/10). The man makes an art of whistling, on top of his incomparable handiwork on the glockenspiel, violin and guitar. Take your mom on a date! She’ll think Ra Ra Riot and Heartless Bastards are cute, aside from their shocking names. After mom’s lectures, further delve into your childhood by checking out Incubus at the Hollywood Bowl or Beyonce at Staples Center (both on 7/13). Maybe she’ll notice your halo out of the crowd and give you a lap dance, as Sasha Fierce, of course.

Have you ever wondered who beat Silverchair on the Australian charts? Take in the electronic splendor of TV Rock. For the last few years, TV Rock has dominated Australia’s dance music scene, nabbing ARIA awards and appearing on over 2,000,000 compilations around the world. DJ Reza and K.I.D. join the Avalon get-down (7/11). Or if you want to side with the Brits, UK-based Adam Freeland will be kicking his nu-skool breakbeats at Vanguard on the same night.
