SSMF, Calvin Harris, Lazer Sword - This week in LA

All the living ghosts of rock and roll flock to WeHo this week for the Sunset Strip Music Festival. Join the masses of black t-shirts and Ozzy fanatics or relive the ‘90s to the tune of a keyboard at the Old School Jams extravaganza. Not your style? No worries, lots else going on in the city of Angels this week as well.

Wednesday, September 9
Health, Mi Ami, and Dam Funk @ The Troubadour
Here’s a strange but interesting grab bag: Health the noise band, Mi Ami the post punk, and Dam Funk, the self-proclaimed master of modern funk. Get familiar with ways to lose your hearing and shake a tailfeather.

Thursday, Sept 10
Lazer Sword, Rainbow Arabia, Hecuba @ The Echo
Rainbow Arabia samples the middle east and caribbean while Hecuba takes the Philip Glass approach. Meanwhile, Lazer Sword visits from San Francisco mixing hip hop and future bass into their electro jams.

Friday, Sept 11
Sunset Strip Music Festival
The Sunset Strip Music Festival officially kicks off tonight, but if you can’t get into the opening festivities with Ozzy and co, make it to West Hollywood for the daytime part and boogie with Korn, The Donnas, Kottonmouth Kings, Fishbone, Pepper, Shiny Toy Guns, LMFAO, The Knux, Talib Kweli, and more.

Saturday, Sept 12
Calvin Harris @ Vanguard
The tall Brit arrives to swerve his long fingers around some records, mixing electro and house beats while most likely hopping up and down. Los Angeles DJs Them Jeans and Paparazzi will warm up the crowd first.

Sunday, Sept 13
Old School Jams Live @ Greek Theater
As the current decade nears close, relive the ‘90s like you never have before. Lisa Lisa, Ready For The World, Klymaxx, Soul Sonic Force, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Egyptian Lover, and Peanut Butter Wolf will serve it up.

Tuesday, Sept 15
Arctic Monkeys @ The Palladium
This indie rock band from Sheffield has been a large part of what defined indie in the 2000’s. Heck, they even got a Mercury Prize.
