Ludo is simply smashing. Ludo is a genius. Ludo is a creative and gracious soul. Ludo blew us away. A simple scan of reviews and the praise for Ludo is endless. Entire websites have seemingly synthesized in our search engines just to ring praise. So who is he? He's the Frenchman (with an accent) behind the "pop up" restaurant LudoBites.
Guerrilla-style Pop up restaurants are a recent fad where chefs have taken up limited-time residences in any place with a kitchen. This includes peoples homes, rented space, and even inside existing restaurants. Prior to its recent location in Culver City, LudoBites was hosted by the Breadbar on 3rd St. in Los Angeles. Here, it didn't take long for people to get a whiff of the five star entrees and want more. Jonathan Gold from the LA times was so impressed, he included it in his list of the 99 Most Essential Restaurants in LA.
Ludovic Lefebvre's newest location is at Royal/T in Culver City and titled " LudoBites and Royal/T Get in Bed Together". It's going to be a 13 day dining and art experience, which fuses 2 of Ludo's passions. Royal/T calls itself a Japanese style cosplay (meaning theatrical roleplay that takes place outside the theater) and the concept was heavily influenced by the underground Tokyo Maid Cafes, where waitresses dress in maid uniforms with a Lolita-esque touch.
Although he remained at his last location for several months, here, he will only be open for 13 days. If you're thinking of getting a seat however, good luck. Reservations were filled a-day-and-a-half after the bookings opened to many enthusiasts' dismay. It's kind of a bummer cause he's serving up crazy cool concoctions like Fois Gras Beignets, veal Udon and hanger steak topped with fried escargot. Just means you should start looking out for Ludo's next pop up, with the hopes of scoring an oh-so-exclusive reservation next time around.
GetWize:Lefebvre has made quite a name for himself in the culinary world. WHe's been named one of the top 50 Chef's in the world, and, more importantly, he's been on Iron Chef, Top Chef Masters, the Apprentice, and The Today Show. Who cares about Michelin Stars when we have reality TV?
