In the short time that it’s been open, Mezzanine has quickly become one of San Francisco’s premier venues. The club is out in front of all the latest cultural trends in music, art, and film. It has matured into a place where you can see killer indie bands, techno DJ’s, and multimedia installations all in the same weekend. There are few venues in SF that offer the diverse selection of events that Mezzanine puts on every month and few that match the style the venue uses to pull them off. This approach to booking has put the club on the map and has made it a favorite of Bay Area music lovers as well as the bands who play there.

A large part of Mezzanine’s success has to do with the 12,000 square foot space itself. It is a highly stylized multimedia venue with a superb, custom-built sound system and state-of-the-art lighting technologies. The club has room for 1,000 people and the upstairs areas have plenty of seating and nooks to hide away in for a while. The sleek design of the venue creates a relaxed atmosphere suitable for hanging out as well as dancing for hours straight.

There were several memorable performances and events at Mezzanine during 2008. Soulwax had everybody pumping a fist to their high-energy electro rock. Afterwards, the band switched gears and tore up the dance floor with their genre splicing 2 Mandy DJ’s set. The Glitch Mob played to a rowdy, sold out crowd and had everybody grooving to their crunchy, warped grooves. Chillin’ Productions threw a couple of their excellent parties complete with 80 fashion designers, 150 painters & photographers, and 8 DJ’s.

2009 will likely be another awesome year for Mezzanine filled with more cutting edge artists and innovative events. Check out their calendar for information on upcoming shows.
