MSTRKRFT is blowing up; there’s no two ways about it. They’ve been receiving straight praise from every critic who’s been lucky enough to slap on a pair of headphones - not to mention their Sonic-the-Hedgehog-paced fan growth. Why do you care? Because even though they’re touring on a major international and festival circuit this year, you can still catch them at SF’s The Independent with Felix Cartel for 20 bucks.

What’s up now So Cal?

The Canadian duo JFK and Al-P of Last Gang records put MSTRKRFT and Toronto on the map in 2005, and they’ve been pumping out bangers ever since. Bloc Party, Wolfmother, Annie, The Kills and Metric have all commissioned MSTRKRFT to remix their chart topping hits. Their first album, The Looks, landed them in the spotlight right off the bat. Soon after its release, they signed deals for commercials, video games and performed at WEMF and Bonnaroo. With a highly anticipated sophomore album, Fist of God, coming out March 17th; be prepared to see MSTRKRFT catapult themselves into every iPod on earth. This year they’ve already booked Coachella, Ultra, SXSW and have an early Mexico tour in the works.

Fist of God is coming out on Dim Mak/Downtown Records, founded by Steve Aoki, featuring N.O.R.E., Ghostface Killah, Isis of Thunderheist, E-40, Freeway, Lil’ Mo and John Legend. Of the album, Al-P explains it’ll be “darker, underground disco and house with elements of American rock music.” That’s what peeing yo' pants and getting goose bumps at the same time feels like.
