Nic Fanciulli is part of a talented cadre of young producers and DJs that’s challenging the status quo in many of the mega clubs around the globe. Along with artists like James Zabiela, Andy Chatterly, and James Holden, Fanciulli is pushing a deep, tech-house sound with touches of German-style minimal techno. His productions often have a smooth, melodic sensibility that meshes well with his skilled rhythm programming. Nic is that rare breed of DJ who can spin a flawless set in the club and also create quality tracks in the studio.
Fanciulli started DJing at the age of 16, playing in local bars around his hometown of Maidstone, England. Nic eventually earned a main room residency at ClubClass, the town’s top house club. It was in this environment where he fully developed his own sound. His night became a success and many of the big guns in the British dance music scene were invited to play there. Legendary acts like Xpress2 and Deep Dish were impressed by the young DJ’s skills behind the decks and Fanciulli quickly built a reputation as an up and coming talent. Nic currently has a slew of residencies in several different countries and continues to pump out tracks by himself and with his longtime production partner Andy Chatterly under the name Skylark.
Nic has two west coast gigs this week at Avalon in Los Angeles and Ruby Skye in San Francisco. He always brings a lot of energy to his U.S. dates and these two shows are shaping up to be big ones. “America is still one of my favorite places to play. There is a real passion with house music there, and being such a big country there is a great variety of clubs and crowd,” Fanciulli says.
