This weekend a former San Francisco landmark returns to SOMA with new owners and a reconceived feel. The Paradise Lounge is set to re-open its doors to SF after a three-year hiatus. While the name remains the same, the new club, located on the corner of 11th and Folsom, is nothing like its predecessor. Conceptualized as a modern discotheque meets the glam chic style of a bygone era, the club will provide a platform for underground electro, disco, and techno for both regional and national DJs. Marrying a stylized music scene with its quirky, cozy atmosphere, the Paradise will appeal to the hipster set while welcoming club-goers of all stripes. In addition to this new vision, the interior of the space has received a makeover: the 700 person capacity, two floor, multi-room bar got major sound and light upgrades, bar upgrades, and new design.
The club will again be the entertainment anchor to the 11th St. corridor—an area which has recently seen a boost in life. With new restaurants in the neighborhood like Mercury Lounge around the corner and Basil Canteen across the street as well as the newly re-opened Mist (formerly Loft 11), the Paradise finds itself in good company. Other neighborhood favorites like Wish, Sushi Groove South, and Butter along with staples like DNA Lounge and Slim's make 11th St. once again a hub of nightlife activity in San Francisco.
The “soft” opening of the club this weekend includes two killer shows with Greg Wilson on Halloween night and Lee Burridge on Saturday night. A light November schedule will make way for a more grandiose opening event in December and a consistent schedule of Friday, Saturday and even Sunday parties. For now, keep your eyes peeled to MetroWize for announcements on the events as they hit the radar or check their site.
