The five person self-described, “musical kaleidoscope” will be back in SF and taking over the Warfield this Spring. If you missed their SF appearance at Mezzanine in the Fall, or their awesome performance at Treasure Island Music Festival, you've been given a second chance. Passion Pit’s first single, ‘Sleepyhead’, has been featured in Palm Pixi’s ads and MTV’s ‘What the Flip?’. Also, Pitchfork Media included the “Sleepyhead” music video in its top 40 music videos of 2008.
Of course, it all started with a girl who stood by boyfriend and Front-man Michael Angelakos. Her seemingly amazing ability to “put up with” this musical talent inspired him to create Passion Pit’s debut EP Chunk of Change as a late apology for Valentine's Day. After some encouragement, Angelakos started spreading the album, which he made entirely by himself on his laptop from his dorm room, to fellow Emerson College students. After a local Boston show Ian Hultquist approached Michael and suggested forming a live band to perform the material. Since then mutual friends Ayad Al Adhamy, Nate Donmoyer and Jeff Apruzzese joined in and Passion Pit was born.
In May 2009, they put out their first full-length studio album, Manners, and skyrocketed to international fame. Currently on an exhaustive world tour, they'll bring their electro-pop back to the States, playing in venues across the country. Tickets for their April 15th show at the the Warfield are currently on sale. Based on the popularity of their Fall performance at Mezzanine, this show will sell out- so buy your tickets asap.
GetWize: There was speculation that Passion Pit's name came from a 1980's porno flick. Not the case- Angelakos has said the name was slang for the drive-in movie theaters of the 1950's where kids would go to make-out.
