Some free music events are worth avoiding. This isn’t one of them. In its 11th year, Power to the Peaceful has become a San Francisco staple among the hip and socially conscious, and for good reason. It's one of the largest outdoor events in the country, complete with artists, DJs, notable speakers, yoga workshops, and a special lineup designed specifically for the younger generations. Festival goers may roll their sleeves up on September 12th and 13th with, among others, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and local activist Michael Franti, before swinging hips along with Michael Franti+Spearhead, Sellassie, and the Brazilian dance group - Aguas Da Bahia.
The crowd is sure to be emotionally charged, inspiration tends to ooze from the stage to the speakers when a bunch of activists and artists get together to celebrate peace and possibility. Think, Obama effect, with more drumbeat.
GetWize: Power to The Peaceful is a FREE event, its forum this year is creating solutions to end world poverty. The two day festival includes music, yoga workshops, and lectures. Tickets to an afterparty tribute to The Talking Heads at The Fillmore will most likely sell out, so buy tickets quickly if you're interested. Send your donations to powertothepeaceful.org to keep the event coming for years to come.
