This Week in SF 6/25 - 7/2
By: Erik Lillquist 06/24/09It’s another big week in SF with major festivals, big parades, old school heros and nu skool rising stars. From clubs to venues and even into the streets, here what’s poppin’.
Steve Lawler @ Harlot
A rare opportunity to see one of the top jocks in the world in an intimate venue. Steve Lawler is just what the doctor ordered to get your weekend started just a bit early.
Spectrum Music Festival (Day 1) @ The Regency Ballroom
The long awaited arrival of the Spectrum Music Festival is finally here. 2 nights of solid dance music from Electro to Jam, Drum n Bass to Glitch. Night 1 features Major Lazer (Diplo and Switch), LTJ Bukem and DJ Vadim among close to a dozen others.
James Zabiela @ 103 Harriet
When it comes to rockin' dance floors, there are few who do it better than Mr. Zabiela. Since he was a wee lad, James has been tearing dance floors apart with his signature sounds of prog, minimal and breaks. Now James is all growed up and even more of a force on the dance scene. Add in the fact that 1015 has one of the most massive sound systems in the western hemisphere and you have a recipe for proper party.
Aly & Fila @ 1015 Folsom
Rising stars from Egypt Aly & Fila join an increasingly growing list of extremely talented djs and producers for the future. They need no introduction as Egypt's most talented and demanded DJs.After falling in love with the music of Paul Van Dyk, Steve Helstrip and Chicane they built their first small studio and started doing electronic music and djing from 1999. They have grown to be one of the most successful duos in the world!
Benny Benassi @ Ruby Skye
It just wouldn’t be the weekend without a top notch international DJ at Ruby Skye right? This weekend is none other than Italian superstar DJ Benny Bennasi.
David Byrne @ The Greek Theatre
70's new wave icon and Talking Heads front man David Byrne will be performing "songs of David Byrne" at The Greek Theater. David Byrne. Just wanted to say it again.
Air Guitar Championships @ The Independent
Oh yeah… It’s back again. The flailing arms, the lightning fast fingers, the Gene Simmons signature tickle tongue and the pointer and pinkie fist to the sky. Are you ready to watch people pretend to rock?
Spectrum Music Festival (Day 2) @ The Regency Ballroom
Day 2 of the Spectrum Music Festival brings Phoenix, Boys Noize and Amazing Baby to the stage for another round of nu skool musical mayhem over at The Regency.
Enter The Dancehall @ Club Six
DeeCee's Soul Shakedown & King of Kings summer explosion 2009 with 2 rooms of dancehall, reggae, roots, and hip-hop with a special performance by dancehall legend Sister Nancy and an all-star DJ lineup featuring I-Vier, Green B & Daneekah and more.
Pride Parade 2009
Break out the rainbow flags, it’s time for Pride. This year marks the 39th anniversary of the San Francisco Pride Celebration. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. on Market St. at Beale St. and ends at Market St. and 8th St. with a big party in Civic Center until 7:00 p.m.
Nitevibe’s DJ Dreamteam 2009 @ Mission Rock Café
Remember back in ‘88 when Nestle came out with The Dream Team collectors baseball cards? 44 of the best players on one team who would be sure to kick all sorts of ass if they ever all played on the same team. Think of Nitevibe’s Dream Team like that but replace the best baseball players with the best DJ’s, replace 44 with 10 and move the event from a baseball field to Mission Rock… oh and add drinking and dancing. Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, David Harness, Rooz, Syd Gris and more headline.
Tortured Soul @ The Independent
Born of the simple yet adventurous belief that modern dance music can be performed completely live, Brooklyn’s Tortured Soul packs dance floors with their unique live performances. In town for one night only at The Indie.
Dave Guetta @ The Regency Ballroom
The Regency is apparently THE new place in town to see shows and for the 3rd night in a row will be sportin’ a can’t miss event. David Guetta is one of the top DJ talents in the world and with 3 number 1 US Dance Chart hits under his belt, you have heard his music whether you know it or not.
BT @ Ruby Skye
Ruby Skye knows that it can be hard to drag the masses out on a weeknight especially right before a big holiday weekend so they decided to throw a freebie. Not just any freebie but one with world reknowned DJ/Producer BT. Yes, yes… you heard right. BT for Free. Get there.
