San Francisco gets a bit of everything this weekend so you are bound to find that perfect place to get your good time going. Whether it's Burners or Killers you are in to, rock to indie, house to trance, find out where you should be going this week.
Deep Blue w/ Carlo Lio @ Vessel
If music is the Universal language then Toronto Native, Carlo Lio is surely multilingual. It is this universal appeal that has allowed Carlo to speak to so many people without ever having to say a word. His ability to capture sounds and emit them so expressively is a gift. Music has always been a priority in Carlo’s life; anyone who witnesses him gracing the decks can attest to this. Special non weekend appearance at Vessel with a little support from local jock Rooz.
Skills presents Club S @ Paradise Lounge
Skills Productions (you know, those guys that throw those little parties like ETD Pop and The Lovevolution Afterparty) continue to bring the dance back to the upstairs lounge at Paradise (cleverly called Above Paradise) with their weekly event Club S. This week Blix Cannon, John Beaver, Luke Shedd drop beats for the energetic audience that has been coming out week after week.
Get Freaky Afterburn @ 103 Harriet
Just when you got all that playa dust out of your ears and nose, it's time for the Afterburn. Bringing Black Rock back to SF this year is another stellar line up of talent that are on the cutting edge of the dance music sound. Akira Kitesi-II, Tipper, Gemmy, Mary Anne Hobbs, Nosaj Thing, Eskmo, Max Ulis, An-ten-nae and whole lot more will be blasting beats out of every room in the massive 1015/103 venue. If you miss this one you will have to wait a whole year for the next one so get your tix now.
Lot 46 Sneak Preview Event @ Lot 46
Christian Pineiro & Adrian, cordially invite you to the Sneak Preview, Part 3 of San Francisco's newest nightlife experience at Lot 46. The new 8,000 sq. ft., 2 floor club has 3 rooms and 3 full bars. Designer Deejays, DJ Mike and Trevor Simpson provide the beats. RSVP only... get on the list here.
Mark Farina @ Mighty
If you might like Mark Farina, you already know about Mark Farina. As the founder of one of the most prolific House Music labels (OM Records) and one of the godfathers of the San Francisco house sound, he truly is a man who really needs no introduction. You know you need to be here tonight if house is your thing.
The Thrillseekers @ Ruby Skye
Over the last 10 years The Thrillseekers have stood at the forefront of both club and electronic dance music culture. From his debut Top 20 hit 'Synaesthesia' through to latter club anthems 'By Your Side', ‘Waiting Here For You’ & his latest epic ‘The Last Time’, Steve Helstrip’s music ranks as some of the most affecting, inspiring ever made. In town for a special engagement at Ruby Skye, expect a packed house and bangin beats.
Club 1994 Feat. DJ Fuze (Digital Underground) @ 111 Minna
Digital Underground most famous song, The Humpty Dance, went platinum in the early 90's and helped define the sound of West Coast rap with the help of Greg "Shock G" Jacobs, Tupac Shakur and David Elliot aka DJ Fuze. Known for their outrageous costumes, sense of humor and their role in popularizing the elastic funk sound of Hip-Hop, Digital Underground is considered one of the most important groups of their era. The DJ behind the music of Digital Underground is now coming to Club 1994 to show us a thing or two about how to do the "humpty hump".
Colette @ Ruby Skye
With her disarming doe eyes and a heartwarming demeanor, Colette possesses the unmistakable voice of post-millennial house music. Her sweet-but-sultry voice has been called "angelic" so many times, it's a miracle she hasn't grown wings: Imagine a less breathy Kylie Minogue merged with a more controlled Roisin Murphy (Moloko) and you have a good grasp on her classy voice that highlights any beat that flows behind it.
Power to the Peaceful @ Speedway Meadow, Golden Gate Park
Power to the Peaceful is back this weekend for music, political activism and... well probably some weed smoking in GGP. Headliner and organizer of the event Michael Franti has been doing PTTP for 11 years now and during that time has brought a lot of big name talent out to Speedway Meadows for a free day long concert event. The line up this year may not be as spectacular as it has been in years past (Alanis Morsette, Sly and Robbie, Spearhead etc - see full line up) but its a free concert in the park and the dj tent (featuring Miguel Migs and Ren the Vinyl Archeologist) will be a great refuge when the music gets to sappy on the main stage. Afterparty is at The Fillmore.
The Killers @ Shoreline
After their hugely successful Hot Fuss album in 2004, the Las Vegas native band known as The Killers found themselves on the edge of something really, really big. Rather than running away, the 4 member group plunged into a big global tour and then released an even bigger sophmore album called Sams Town. Since then things have gotten progressively crazier and now The Killers are ready to show SF why they deserve to be playing Shoreline to a sold out crowd. Are they human? Maybe they are dancers? It doesn't make sense but it will be a good show no less.
2nd Sunday @ Mission Rock
2nd Sunday is deep in their 2009 season and have teamed up with Salted for this edition of their summer monthly. The house beats will be flowing like a melodic waterfall as Miguel Migs w/ Lisa Shaw, Julius Papp w/ Morrisson, Norm Stradley, Ellen Ferrato, Rooz, Rouzbeh, David Harness, Frank Boissy, DJ Icon and more take the decks for the all day party.
Arctic Monkeys @ The Fox Theater
Favourite Worst Nightmare' is everything you hoped Arctic Monkeys would do next. Not so much a sequel as an upgrade, a breakneck technicolour journey through screwball punk and guitar-fuelled dancefloor heroics, it's very, very fast and very, very loud; a brilliant racket that proves there's infinitely more to Arctic Monkeys than writing pretty little ditties. A perfect mid week show to keep your hope alive in modern day indie rock.
